Batch begins in January 2015
The Music Therapy Trust?s Music Therapy Academy will be running its fifth year of the ?Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Music Therapy? commencing January 2015, in Delhi, India.
This is India?s first comprehensive training program in the field of Clinical Music Therapy. It will run as a full time course over one year and a board certified Clinical Music Therapist from the UK will be the Course Tutor.
What Is Clinical Music Therapy?
Music Therapy is an internationally recognized health care profession in which the therapist works to help beneficiaries overcome identified life challenges. Well established training and certification processes are situated in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, among many others.
As a Psychologist and Psychotherapist works in a clinical setting, equally a Music Therapist works in medical and psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitative day care treatment facilities, palliative care centers and agencies for persons with various challenges who have faced trauma in life or who suffer from mental health problems.
A person who completes the approved Clinical Music Therapy training program is eligible to practice as a Music Therapist in a clinical setting and can work in hospitals, NGOs and other settings. Graduates qualify to be members of Indian Association of Professional Music Therapists.
What is the duration and the timings?
1 year consisting of three terms with two breaks of 2- 4 weeks in between
35 hrs a week spread over 6 days (includes self study and assignments)
Timings are 3 evening classes of 4 hrs, 1 full day over the weekend and a half day of clinical placement
When does the next batch begin?
Applications are open for Batch V
Batch V would begin in January 2015 and will end by December 2015
What is the course content?
The Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Music Therapy has been developed by some of the world?s leading Clinical Music Therapists and includes the following:
Music Therapy theories; approaches and methods, emphasis on practical clinical training with special focus on ?
- Children/Adults with Special Needs (autism, CP, Developmental Disorders)
- Mental Health
- Oncology
- HIV
- Palliative Care
- Community music therapy
Developing an understanding of traditional healing practices, psychology, psychotherapy, counseling, Rehabilitation, other Arts? Therapies, Family Therapy, speech therapy ect
Students will be required to complete various different practical and written assignments.
In addition, students will provide supervised services at several placements as part of their training, e.g. at hospitals, NGOs and care homes as arranged by The Music Therapy Trust in Delhi. The institutional Endeavour is to reach out to the socially economically marginalized communities.
What is the medium of transaction?
The medium of transaction would be English, working knowledge of Hindi is desirable though not mandatory.
Who is eligible to apply?
Eligibility criterions for Application are listed below:
- Graduate degree in any discipline from a recognized university
- Professional standard of musicianship (instrumental and/or vocal)
- Good communication skills in spoken & written English.
Relevant experience of working with people having a wide range of developmental difficulties, medical illnesses, social issues and mental health problems will be an added advantage. (for more details see-(what are you looking for...given below )

How to apply? What is the admission process?
Online Application Form, (you can also download print friendly format) and send it to us by 30th November 2014. This will be followed by an interview and audition at the Music Therapy Centre, New Delhi. In exceptional cases alternate arrangements could be made.
What are the career options in Music Therapy?
Graduate will be qualified to work as clinical music therapists who can be associated to hospitals, health care centers, schools and treatment programs. Music therapists work with clients with physical, developmental and mental health challenges as well as patients with cancer, HIV and other life threatening illnesses.
They are also equipped to support and contribute to community rehabilitation programs and with people facing trauma, crises and disasters of any kind including those living in any challenging and precarious conditions.
What is the scope for Music Therapy in India?
Although Clinical Music Therapy in India is in a growing stage, the future is promising. The trust will also consider absorbing some of the deserving graduates.

Formed in 2005, The Music Therapy Trust in India is a sister charity with Otakar Kraus Music Trust, which has been providing Music Therapy in the UK for more than 20 years.
Today, the Music Therapy Trust is providing a range of Music Therapy services and educational programs in India.

What are the course costs?
The course fee is Rupees 1, 20,000/- which will require to be paid in three installments of Rs 40000/- at commencement of each term.

Are there any Scholarships?
We offer partial fees waiver to the deserving and promising candidates who come from any disadvantaged background.
The candidates have to apply for the scholarship and undergo the interview process to be able to get the scholarship.
