The Otakar Kraus Music Trust was established in 1990 by Margaret Lobo in London, U.K. to provide music therapy for children and adults. Following several presentations of the Trust’s work in Mumbai and Delhi, the Music Therapy Trust in India was formed with the purpose of providing the first Music therapy Postgraduate Training programme in Mumbai.

What is Otakar Kraus Music Trust ?

The Otakar Kraus Music Trust is a registered charity providing music therapy for children and young people with special developmental needs.

Operating from its centre in Twickenham, and with an increasing number of outreach projects in London and the Home Counties, the Trust is staffed by qualified music therapists who have been trained to use music in a focused and controlled way for treatment and assessment. Each holds a postgraduate Diploma in Music Therapy approved by the Department of Health, are fully state-registered and are members of the Association of Professional Music Therapists(AMPT)

In addition, the Trust provides information to health and education agencies, the media and the general public. Therapists give regular lectures and workshops to promote awareness and understanding of music therapy and its healing role.

As the benefits of music therapy become more widely acknowledged, so the demand increases. Many in need of therapy are unable to meet the cost, and for them the Trust provides a proportion of the funding required.

Who was Otakar Kraus ?

Otakar Kraus was an internationally-renowned Opera singer and singing teacher, working with many famous performers including Matthtew Best, Gwynne Howell, Robert Lloyed, Jonathan Summers, John Tomlinson and Willard White.

Among others, he helped the Trust's director, Margaret Lobo, regain her voice and resume a successful singing career after a serious illness. In his memory and in recognition of his skills she set up the Otakar Kraus Music Trust in 1990.
